Welcome to Viborg Animation Festival – a celebration of all things animated! Now in its 13th year, Viborg Animation Festival (VAF) is Denmark’s premier event dedicated to the art and industry of animation. Organized by The Animation Workshop, the festival brings in collaboration with Viborg Unesco Creative City together families, newcomers, students, and seasoned professionals for a week of inspiring films, animation fun, thought-provoking discussions, and engaging activities.
Taking place this year from September 8th to September 14th, VAF transforms Viborg – Denmark’s animation capital – into a vibrant hub for artists, animation aficionados, and experts. Whether you’re looking to explore inspiring animated films, dive into hands-on workshops, or gain insight into the latest trends and challenges shaping the industry, the festival offers something for everyone.

Viborg Animation Festival (VAF) fejrer i år sin 14. udgave – Nordens største animationsfestival, der hylder kreativitet, historiefortælling og innovation inden for animation og spil! Skabt af The Animation Workshop, samler festivalen familier, nysgerrige sjæle, studerende og branchefolk til en uge fyldt med inspirerende film, vidensdeling og engagerende aktiviteter.
Fra den 8. til 14. september forvandles Viborg – Danmarks animationshovedstad – til et hotspot for animations-elskere og professionelle. Uanset om du udforsker et mangfoldigt filmprogram, deltager i events rundt i byen, workshops eller deltager i spændende talks, er der noget for alle og enhver!

UNESCO Creative City –
Media Arts
The festival is made in close collaboration with Viborg Unesco Creative City. In Viborg, we have a unique international strength in animation and visual creativity, which is why the city was given the title of UNESCO Creative City – Media Arts in 2019. This also means there is a significant ambition to reach out to the entire Viborg Municipality with visual creativity, so that people truly feel that Viborg has something very special in this field. VAF includes a wide cultural program that is produced under UNESCO Creative Viborg.

The Animation Workshop / VIA University College (TAW) is an internationally acclaimed animation school and a cornerstone of the vibrant creative community in Viborg. Aside from being ranked as the second-best animation education in Europe, TAW is more than just a school — it is a creative powerhouse and curious knowledge center dedicated to visual creativity. TAW explores emerging technologies, immersive media, and new creative possibilities, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of the global animation industry
