Event Details

Expanded Animation LAB 2022 will feature works of experimenting artists who each work with animation, narrative storytelling, and art in diverse and inspiring ways.

Expanded Animation is an effort to explore the nexus of culture and technology in pursuit of new artistic expression. The Expanded Animation LAB, as in years past, represents an exhibition setting for a wide range of projects that investigates the fields where art, animation, and technology meet. Experience installations in Virtual Reality, taking you to new worlds. Or try working with AI to create stunning visuals.

Exhibitors:

DALL-E 2 engagement center

DALL·E 2 is a new AI system that can create realistic images and art from a description in natural language. DALL·E 2 has learned the relationship between images and the text used to describe them. Many people have been working with the Dall-E platform to create strange and interesting AI interpretations, and now you will have a chance to do the same!

Timo Wright – Mono No Aware

Mono No Aware is an experimental volumetrically filmed VR documentary, which brings people to the towns desolated by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. Using their VR-glasses, the viewer can walk around the empty towns, guided by the former residents.

Luis Arandas & Marco Jeronimo – Time as Meaning

As an audio-visual performance, Time as Meaning uses AI to address memory, allowing the audience to experience a realtime generated audio-visual experience screened in an immersive way with enveloping sound design.

Jens Settergren – PROTOTYPE

With a cold and commercial aesthetic, the piece acts as a commercial for a child as a product. A child that can be optimized according to the consumer. With a sci-fi look PROTOTYPE examines the ideas revolving around biology, biotechnology, and the digital sphere. The piece leaves the spectator to reflect on life in the future.

The event is a free exhibition in the Old City Hall
