BIOFONIA

Step into the rainforest at Viborg Music Theatre on September 13, 2024, where music and animation take you on a sensory and abstract journey into nature. The project is shaped together with students from Bjerregrav, who have contributed to the project’s visuality, musicality, and structure with support from OpEn. BIOFONIA offers an interactive musical experience by composer Mathias Madsen Munch, performed live by Brazilian-based marimba soloist Ronni Kot Wenzell. In collaboration with the young artistic focus group and Ouros Animation, Wenzell portrays the rainforest through sound and visuals from the perspective of the Guaraní people. BIOFONIA aims to engage young people in topics of nature conservation and the importance of rainforests, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Danish Arts Foundation, and the Danish Cultural Institute in Brazil.

The setup at Viborg Animation Festival is part of BIOFONIA’s broader goal of raising climate awareness through art and culture, to be shared globally towards COP30 in the Amazon. After the concert, the NGO Verdens Skove will facilitate a debate with the young participants about the presented topics and their significance for the environment and climate. The project is part of Viborg Municipality’s ‘Grønne Sammen’ initiative and has broad support from both national and international partners. The music of BIOFONIA is created in collaboration with arranger Thomas Bryła, music producer Rasmus Madsen Munch and violinist Jens Elfving. The animation is created by Viborg-based ‘Ouros Animation’ by of Rikke Planeta, Philip Piaget and Emilia Tobiasz.
