For the 8th time Viborg Animation Festival (VAF 2019) opens its doors for Denmark’s largest animation festival in week 39, september 23 – 29.
It will be a week where children and adults, professionals and curious alike get an exciting possiblity of experiencing everything what an animation festival can offer of exhibitions, events, film screens, art, conferences and much, much more.
South Korea comes to Viborg
To give the danish festival audience more experiences with foreign animation, every year VAF takes on a theme-country. In 2019 South Korea has Denmark’s focus, because of the celebration of the 60 years of diplomatic relationsship btween the two countries.
“That’s why it was obvious for us to choose South Korea as this year’s guest country for VAF 2019,” Festival Manager Jane Lyngbye Hvid Jensen explains, and adds that VAF thus also become part of a larger national agenda.
This year’s VAF artist has also been selected in extension of VAF’s South Korean scope. We have had the great pleasure of having Seoro Oh as this year’s artist behind the VAF Trailer 2019.
Seoro uses compelling colors, and his work displays an exception comprehension of human nature. It is this comprehensen he uses as bulding blocks in the VAF traier, where you immedieately empathize for the trailer’s main character, and at the same time understand the importance of taking care of our shared world.
Festival Theme: Human Impact
Following traditions, VAF 2019 also has a festival theme, which permeates the festival’s activities. And this year the festival has chosen the theme “Human Impact”, which takes its inspiration in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals.
Human Impact can be translated as “human’s imprint on the world”, and VAF wants to use this theme to focus on, how Man can reduce our imprint on the world – and especially how storytelling and animation can be a important communication tool.
Consequently, for VAF it’s about how art as a tool can contribute to changing Man’s perception of the world.
“That’s exactly why it’s obvious to use VAF as a platform for disussions between the public and professionals, children and adults – so we together can create a world we have a united responsibility in taking better care of,” says center leader of The Animation Workshop, Morten Thorning.
With a lot of exciting projects on the drawing board, and the pocket full of ideas, the people behind VAF 2019 are in progress of getting the festival’s program underway.
It won’t be long until we can draw the curtains for lots of exciting events, that will happen during VAF September 23 – 29.
