The VAF Student Film Competition takes place from the 24th of September to the 30th of September 2018 during the Viborg Animation Festival.

The Student Film Competition (SFC) Program contains European graduation films displaying the upcoming generation of filmmakers and their variety of skill and influence.
The 22 student films will be screened to the public over two screenings during the festival.

Out of the competing films, a Jury will select a single Winner of the Ginger Award – VAF Best Student Film.
Furthermore, our Audience will select the winner of the VAF Audience Award.
The winners will be announced at the Student Film Competition Award Ceremony, which takes place Saturday evening, the 29th of September.

This year’s jury


Benoît Berthe Siward

Benoit Berthe Siward is an animation maker and strategist engaged in the Motion Pictures community, working between London, Paris and Los Angeles.

CEO of a strategy and consulting company advising animation studios, institutions, schools, and directors, he curates animation screenings to bring spotlights on the best talents of the animation community to the creative industry. Benoit managed the Oscar Campaign of several Shorts Academy Awards qualified Shorts film such as “Garden Party” (Nominated as Best Animated Short at the 90th Oscars Ceremony) and helped to create the 1st European Animation Awards Academy (Annie Awards equivalent also known as Emile Awards) where he works as the International Public Relation Manager.


Lena Ólafsdóttir

Lena Ólafsdóttir is an animation filmmaker and VFX artist based in Copenhagen. She is currently working on her second film.


Tobias Gundorff Boesen

Graduating from The Animation Workshop in 2010 and Super16 in 2014, Tobias Gundorff Boesen is a film director working in the crossfield between animation and live action. Based in Copenhagen, he has directed a number of award-winning short films, music videos, and commercials. Tobias is currently in post-production on the short film “China” while writing on his first live-action feature. Both are supported through New Danish Screen.
