Among the 28 candidates interviewed, 16 have been chosen to participate in the “NipponNordic” program. The selection committee, composed by The Animation Workshop and its official partners, had to make a tough choice and selected 16 artists to participate in the three-week-long residency. They confirmed their attendance in Viborg, Denmark, from September 11 to 29. The early-stage projects selected will represent a wide variety of artistry and market appeal.

The independent directors Niels Andersen Dolmer, Julie H. Baltzer, Kaoru Furuko, Xinxin Liu, Takashi Uchida, Kazue Monno and Takeshi Nagata, the fresh graduated students Louise Bentsen (KADK) and Bob Kristiansen (TAW), the directors from Bedtime Digital Games Jonas Byrresen and Stefan Lindgren, the independent Game designers Tomas Præstholm, Kensuke Shimoda and Mads Vadsholt, the PhD student Nicolas Guarin (Geidai), and the director from Dwarf Inc. Iku Ogawa, will develop their projects, advised by experienced professionals.

Speakers from the graphic industries are expected to give lectures and follow-up the development of the participants’ projects, helping them to identify their audiences, enhance their commercial potential and highlight the strengths of their IPs (Intellectual Property).
On the last day of the residency, during Viborg Animation Festival (VAF), the participants will pitch their concepts to a board of major companies of the creative industries in Japan and Denmark. The best projects will get the chance to take their development through additional residencies and to access pitching sessions in major festivals and partner-events throughout Europe and Asia.
